Since 1998, the ESPMH, in association with Springer has published the European journal, Medicine Health Care and Philosophy. A European Journal is the official journal of the European Society for Philosophy of Medicine & Health Care. The publication acts as a stimulus in the field of bioethics and philosophy of medicine and has an emphasis on European approaches. Subscription to the journal is included in the membership fee of ESPMH.
The specific goals of the journal are: (1) to focus on European perspectives, (2) the interrelation of philosophy and medicine. The journal is published in quarterly and one issue will be thematic. The majority of articles in each issue are original contributions.
There are several categories: a) scientific articles: longer expositions of problems, themes, topics or problem areas; b) practical viewpoint: shorter exposition of case discussion, clinical problem, current issues; c) research and educational programmes: special surveys and articles on programmes in ethics and philosophy education, or exposition of research programmes and results from various centres and institutions. Furthermore, the journal informs members about important activities and events. Articles for publication can be submitted online.
The Journal provides a forum for international exchange of research data, theories, reports and opinions in bioethics and philosophy of medicine. The journal promotes interdisciplinary studies, and stimulates philosophical analysis centred on a common object of reflection: health care, the human effort to deal with disease, illness, death as well as health, well-being and life. Particular attention is paid to developing contributions from all European countries, and to making accessible scientific work and reports on the practice of health care ethics, from all nations, cultures and language areas in Europe.
